Hello,
My Franke Saphira has been showing the "Malfunction 8" error from time to time for many years. It gets stuck in the initialization with a load repeating banging sound. Usually if I move the machine, open it and removes and reinstalls the brewing unit it works again. Been so for several years. But now it got totally stuck, didn't start again.
So I tried to replace (refurbish) the brewing unit, installed a new geared motor, new encode. As I ordered parts I also changed both pumps at the same time. But still the same error 8. I then realized that as all relevant mechanical parts has been changed, it must be an error on one of the electronics boards. That was the error. It has five low voltage relays, and relays are know to break over time. The two on the left are the ones controlling the voltage to the motor, I replaced them all, and also re-soldered all connector pins, and now it works! So happy to get good coffee again!
There's also one "high voltage" relay, I didn't replace that one
To replace the relays wasn't that difficult. The board is just held by two screws and few tie straps. Be careful when removing the relays so you don't damage the pads on the PCB. A good soldering iron and a manual suction pump will do it. The relay is a Panasonic JSM1-12-5, available at Conrad and other shops.

It's a standard relay with many alternatives, eg Omron G5LEe-1-DC12
The same relay problem should apply to Franke Flair, and probably many other machines too
