Jura ENA Micro 9 - Espresso too weak, even with powder

    • Jura ENA Micro 9 - Espresso too weak, even with powder

      Hersteller: Jura | Typ-/Modell: ENA Micro 9 | ca. Baujahr: 2011

I hope you don't mind me posting my question in English.
For both the 'espresso' and 'coffee' function on my machine, the coffee runs rather quickly from the spout, the crema is lightly coloured, the taste is weak and lacks depth, e.g. no caramel.
It is the same when using the built-in grinder or pre-ground coffee, I use Lavazza Espresso 5/10.
Initially the coffee also tasted sour, and I noticed the grounds in the bottom tray were coarse and uneven. So I changed the grinder to its finest setting, and after opening the machine, even a few notches beyond the official finest setting. This got rid of the sour taste but the coffee is still weak.
I have given the machine a thorough clean and replaced practically every item that came with the Reparatur Wartungsset / Inspektionsset PREMIUM (XXXL).
Any suggestions on what I could do to the machine to get a richer, deeper espresso?
      Danke schön!
      Cees.

    • Hello,

seems the grinder is worn. You will need a new
      COMPLETE grinder.

But there are two different grinders for the Micro 9.
      and they are not compatible!

Take a photo from your grinding cone and let us
see which grinder ist the right für your Micro 9.

Also stop the time the grinder mills at "strong" cup.
and let us know whether ist about 7.2 seconds or
3.4 seconds. ("normal" cup 6.0 or 2.7 seconds).

Belonging to the Lavazza-Powder it could be too
less powder you took, or its not fresh enough.
Furthermore ground espresso usually has not the
right fineness for a fully automatic coffee machine.
      Normaly its milled too fine.

    • Thank you for your answers BlackSheep,
Before I spend the money, is there a way to establish without doubt that 1. the grinder is worn out, and 2. that's the only problem?
Regarding the pre-ground powder: I tried different amounts and it came from a brand new pack. It is indeed much finer than what the machine grinds itself. What would too fine powder do to the end result?
      Thanks,
      Cees.
    • Hello,

before I can answer some of your questions, do what I said before.
I didnt´t ask for that as a joke.

      Then we will look forward.

Too fine powder clog the brew sieve and also the coffee tastes worse.
I also can cause further damages at the brewing unit.

    • Hello,

can you see the grinding cone I asked for?
      I see only beans...

The machine seems to need a normal grinder, when
the grinding take about 7,2 seconds.

disassemble the mill and clean it completly. than set
the fineness of the coffeepowder compareable to
      "normal household-sugar".
The brewing chamber should be filled by coffee-strong
      to about 3/4 to 4/5.

If not you have to change the complete coffeegrinder:

or at least the grinder ring:
      komtra.de/jura-ersatzteile/jur…-kaffeevollautomaten.html

Only take this - not V5 or "revidiert"

    • As attached.
Not sure what detail you're interested in so I took a few shots. Hard to get the camera to focus on the teeth down deep.
I'll report back once I've done the cleaning. May take 2 weeks.
